As I made my way through El Salvador, I stopped by a lesser frequented town called Juayúa. Not only was I treated to a weekend of amazing local food at the renowned weekend food festival (think chargrilled meats, fresh tortillas, sides of yucca, vegetables and yes, even frog!), stunning crystal clear waterfalls and trekking through jungles and sustainable coffee plantations, but also an endearing little hostal where I couldn’t help but be inspired by their garden paradise. Hostal Casa Mazeta is like a home away from home where travelers meet to relax, enjoy good food together, have a few drinks and if you’re lucky, play some epic mega Jenga.
It was the garden that stole my heart though as you will see in the following photos. These ingenious recycled pot plant containers were an unexpected surprise that I just had to share in hope of inspiring others out there. Who said you need to spend loads of money on fancy containers when you have everything you need at home already?

DIY Vertical Garden. You could also use old cupcake stands or stack a variety of odd containers in a tiered fashioned.

Yes, this is a dog bowl and yes, it has a plant in it.

Glass bottles that have been recycled for the garden edge.

A teapot hanging from a tree. Just adorable, no?

It’s an old tin with plenty of drainage of course. You could also use glass bottles or aluminium cans (like beer or soda).

It’s an old coal BBQ that’s had the grill removed and in place, pieces of wood to give the pot more structure.

Hanging Gardens using oven mitts. I love it!

A shoe tree.

Travelers beware. Leave your shoes behind and they will be recycled!

And my favorite of all. A watering can pot plant.
What are some creative recycled pot plant containers you’ve come up with?
