WHY SUSTAINABLE LIFESTYLE DESIGN?

You can't escape the responsibility of tomorrow - Learn more at www.theurbanecolife.comBy taking a walk with me through this blog, you will learn how sustainable lifestyle design can be applied to your urban life. It’s a way of life that’s not only good for yourself but also, good for the world around you. Simple changes you can make in your everyday life do in fact have a huge impact on the big picture. Whether you want to learn how to grow your own food, revitalise your lifestyle, green your home or reignite your passion for life, sustainable living is so much more than just recycling your egg cartons!

There’s no denying that as our populations continue to expand, so do our cities and the urban neighbourhoods that support them. This is placing significant pressure on our current way of life from the cost of living to the clean air we breathe. If you’re like me, then you genuinely enjoy the urban lifestyle, with all it’s liveliness, variety, convenience, and opportunities. Yet, you stand divided. You can’t ignore the other side of the story; the part that connects you to mother nature. You yearn for a sense of simplicity that our ancestors once experienced. To live in harmony with nature, to respect the land, to be enriched by a sense of community and to simply wake each morning feeling that you are doing something right. I am embarking on a journey to make this a reality and you are invited to take this step with me. Together, we can help each other to make better choices and bring sustainable living to our cities so that you too can experience a life of joy without compromising the world around you.

But why… and how?

By taking control of your personal choices now, you can reduce the impact of your ecological footprint. You can help after all! We rely so significantly on this generous planet so why wouldn’t you want to help sustain the very thing that sustains you! I for one do not wish for my only legacy that I leave behind on this planet to be a deep and burdensome ecological footprint. If you are reading this today, then I’m throwing a wild guess your way that it’s probably not on your bucket list either.

Everyone has the right to their own secret garden - The Urban Ecolife

You exist alongside billions of other species on this planet. We humans (yes, you and I), however, as the most intelligent species of them all, cannot remain ignorant to the fact that we wield the most power and thus, possess the most influence over the future direction of our planet. As a co-inhabitant of this planet then, we need to be accountable for our choices and acknowledge that our actions of today will have an impact on our way of living in the years to come. I’m sure you’ve heard the old saying that life is made up of a series of choices. You make choices every single day and every single hour. Some are without much thought, some are with much deliberation and others, well, you don’t quite know what to do with them. Would you believe it, but these choices all have consequences?! *gasp* We live in a world of trade-offs but we can still do all in our power to minimize our carbon footprint. By embarking on this journey, you will gain a whole new understanding of this idea by viewing the world in a way you had previously ignored, forgotten or have yet to experience. So let’s make the most of these powerful choices by choosing to live sustainably today. Let’s walk the talk people!

Reflections of the trees - The Urban Ecolife

“But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds of the air, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish of the sea inform you.  Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this?”
